IPU Interparliamentary Assembly starts in Bahrain

The 146th Assembly of the Interparliamentary Union (UIP) officially starts this afternoon in Manama, capital of the Kingdom of Bahrain, where the President of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, is taking part. The parliamentary leader who heads the Angolan delegation to the event, participates, on this third day of work, in the Forum of Women Parliamentarians. Indeed, the Delegation took advantage of the meeting to share Angola’s experience in improving the political, economic, social and cultural condition of women. In this sense, the Delegates were informed about the policies of the Angolan State in the areas of prevention of digital violence against women; promotion of gender equality, fight against domestic violence, empowerment of women, including through the occupation of decision-making positions. Delegates noted with satisfaction the increase in the number of Women Parliamentarians, following the last general elections held in Angola. Also highlighted was the fact that, for the first time, a woman leads the Legislative Power in Angola.
